Balloki Power Plant

Brief Introduction

The 1223 MW Balloki combined-cycle gas-fired power plant bridges the energy shortfall in Pakistan by being one of the most efficient power plants globally. The plant entered commercial operation in July,2018 and  generates the equivalent power needed to supply more than six million Pakistani homes.

The plant utilizes two high-efficiency General Electric 9HA.01 gas turbines, one steam turbine and associated equipment. The turbine combustion system provides dual fuel capability with R-LNG being the primary fuel, while high-speed diesel serves as the backup fuel. In an RLNG fired combined cycle operation, the plant has an efficiency of greater than 61%.

The EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) Contractor for this plant is a HEI-HRL Joint Venture (Joint Venture of Harbin Electric International Company Limited and Habib Rafiq (Pvt.) Ltd. Individually, both these organizations have successfully executed multiple large-scale projects in the past, and collaborated to bring Balloki power plant into operation on fast-track basis.

O&M (Operations and Maintenance ) contractor for Balloki Power Plant his TNB REMACO, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s leading power company Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
